Willingdon Beach Trail
acrylic painting on canvas
22 x 28 inches

A trail for all seasons, but particularly beautiful on an autumn evening when the leaves cover the path with all their sunset colours.

Willingdon Beach Trail is located on the top portion of the Sunshine Coast just north of the community of Powell River, BC, Canada. One of the easier loop trail systems to access. The trail system tends to follow an old 1910 rail bed that was used in the older days to carry logs to dumping wharf of the Powell River Company Mill. The Willingdon Beach Trail is a 1.2 km trail ideal for hikers and mountain bikers that should not take you no longer than 1 hour.

On the Beach, Tonquin Park
acrylic painting on canvas
22 x 28 inches

The West Coast of Vancouver Island is wild waves, long deserted beaches and wind swept shores, filled with an unbounded energy and incredible beauty. From a foggy morning, to a sky so blue it hurts to look at in the afternoon, to a brilliant sunset reflected on the beach in the evening there is so much I want to capture on my canvas.

Tonquin Beach Trail is a short boardwalk pathway leading to a sandy beach tucked away in a private cove located on the northern side of the Tofino Village. Tonquin Beach is a secret little bay backed by towering carved rock cliffs, storm bent dwarfed trees and rock monuments. The beach is small in size compared to many beaches in the area but does not disappoint in scenic beauty and privacy.

Morning on the Beach
acrylic painting on canvas

Morning on the Beach before the surfers arrive will find people walking, running, or just standing, taking in the vast empty spaces and misty sea air of Chesterman Beach.

Hardwood Beach
acrylic painting on canvas
12 x 16 inches

Harwood Island is a traditional Indian Reserve and is located just off the coast of Powell River, BC. Harwood Beach was a joy to behold after not having been there for 15 years. To come back and see nothing had changed was a rare event. We climbed the spit and dug our toes in the sand and just sat and watched the tide come in.

Vivian and Victoria
acrylic painting on canvas
12 x 16 inches

Vivian Island is located just off Harwood Island between Harwood and Vancouver Island. Victoria Peak is the third highest peak on Vancouver Island.

Vivian Island is rocky and formidable, home only to birds, seals and sea lions. Victoria Peak's towering summit is a fitting backdrop to the rough and craggy rocks of Vivian Island.

About Joanne Clark

Joanne Clark, Artist Inspired by the beauty and light of the West Coast, Joanne strives to make each of her paintings not just pictures to look at, but a moment of escape, a beach you can walk along or a lake or ocean into which you can dip your hand or toe.

Born in Ontario, Joanne began making her way west at a very early age. After a brief sojourn in Calgary of 20 odd years, she continued west to the coast of British Columbia in 1965. She lived in Vancouver’s West End before winding her way up the Sunshine Coast to Texada Island in 1972, and then moved to Powell River on the mainland in 1979 where she married and is now settled. Since being on the West Coast she has always lived within sight or walking distance of the ocean, a continuing theme in her paintings.

Through her creations of a coastal nature Joanne invites you to experience a little bit of the wonder of British Columbia.
